初次接觸大島渚的作品就是 " Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" (俘虜)。
改編自英國作家 Laurens Van Der Post 的小說 The Seed And the Sower《種子與播種者》是一部讓人看了之後很難忘記的電影。
我仍記得當時看完電影時內心的沉重,許多複雜矛盾的情緒也讓人不禁感傷,
即使時間已經很久遠,但是某些記憶卻異常清晰地停留在當天的一些場景..
劇中大衛鮑伊被埋在土裡僅露出頭顱,臨死前一隻蝴蝶翩然停棲在他的頭上的那一幕,當下給我的震撼真的很大,如今我對於那些畫面還是記憶猶新。
還有日本士兵因為通姦被處以極刑,然後手持短刀痛苦地切腹,後來又被武士刀斬首,則是最讓人怵目驚心的片段。其中還有很經典的一幕是 David Bowie 擁吻坂本龍一,那幾近慢速停格的鏡頭據說已成了此部電影最著名的經典畫面。
這部 Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence 除了題材以及劇情的鋪陳令人印象深刻外,由坂本龍一製作的配樂和 David Sylvian 配唱的電影同名主題曲「Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence」也同樣出色與令人難忘,。David Sylvian 以他慣有的特殊嗓音哀傷緩緩地唱道

配合著劇中阪本飾演的軍官與Bowie飾演的英軍間的那種複雜矛盾的同志情愫,以及找不到情感出口的幽怨情緒,就如同歌詞般的令人沉溺。

除了在電影中播放的純音樂版本外，由 David Sylvian (Japan) 演唱的版本,曲名為「Forbidden Colours」亦同樣收錄在原聲帶中。
